A globally inclusive tournament with an open-entry format set to boost the sport’s international reach.

The Wheelchair Basketball 3×3 Open World Championship will be held in Cairo from November 26th to 28th, 2026, after the International Federation confirmed Egypt as the official host of the global event, featuring both men’s and women’s competitions. The tournament will follow an open-entry format, allowing countries to participate without going through qualifiers—an approach designed to expand the sport’s reach and give emerging nations greater exposure to more established teams. The 3×3 format is one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic versions of wheelchair basketball, built on high-intensity individual and team play within a smaller court. Its simplicity and pace have made it increasingly popular and easier to scale worldwide. Egypt’s selection as host comes on the back of the national team’s strong recent performances, highlighted by a bronze medal finish at the African Championship in Angola, where they held their own against top sides like Morocco, Angola, and Congo.
