Scoring for Egypt has never been reserved for the experienced. Some of the players who have left their mark on the Pharaohs’ history first found the back of the net before turning 20. Across the decades, a number of young names have scored for the national team, starting with Abdelkarim Sakr in the 1930s, followed by Mido, Ramadan Sobhi and Mohamed Salah, and most recently Hamza Abdelkarim, who has joined the list of Egypt’s youngest goalscorers.

Abdelkarim Sakr

Abdelkarim Sakr remains the youngest player to score for Egypt, after finding the back of the net against Austria at the 1936 Berlin Olympics at the age of 17 years, eight months and 28 days. Sakr’s goal earned him a record that has stood for decades, putting him at the top of Egypt’s youngest goalscorers list.

Ahmed Hossam Mido

Ahmed Hossam Hussein Abdelhamid, better known as Mido, ranks second on the list after being handed his senior Egypt debut by Mahmoud El-Gohary. Mido started against Senegal in an official World Cup qualifier at Cairo Stadium on May 6th, 2001, scoring the only goal of the match past Senegalese goalkeeper Tony Sylva. He scored at the age of 18 years, two months and 13 days, securing his place among Egypt’s youngest international goalscorers.

Hamza Abdelkarim

Hamza Abdelkarim entered Egypt’s youngest goalscorers list after scoring his first official international goal for the Pharaohs against South Sudan at Juba Stadium in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The goal came when Hamza was 18 years, eight months and 28 days old, placing him third on the list and adding another early milestone to his international career.

Ramadan Sobhi

Ramadan Sobhi ranks fourth on the list after scoring his first Egypt goal on March 29th, 2016, at the age of 19 years, two months and six days. The goal came at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria in the 65th minute against Nigeria, when Sobhi capitalised on confusion inside the box before firing a low shot into the net.

The goal was more than a personal milestone for Sobhi, as it secured a valuable 1-0 win for Egypt and officially sealed the Pharaohs’ qualification for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, ending their absence from the tournament after missing the previous three editions.

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah ranks fifth on Egypt’s youngest goalscorers list after scoring his first international goal on October 8th, 2011, at the age of 19 years, three months and 23 days. The goal came against Niger at Cairo International Stadium in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Salah scored in the 47th minute after receiving a pass inside the box before finishing into the net.

His goal helped Egypt to a 3-0 victory. Although the Pharaohs had already lost their chance to qualify for the tournament, the match featured a number of young and promising players.
