Palestinian karateka Mariam Bsharat has defended her world title, winning gold at the 2026 World Karate Championships in Bielsko-Biała, Poland, for the second time in a row.
The 17-year-old defeated Spain’s Noa López González 3-1 in the junior women’s under-66kg kumite final, after beating her Japanese opponent Wakana Karikomi opponent 8-7 in the semifinals.
Bsharat first became a world champion in 2024, winning the cadet title in Venice, Italy, before moving up to the junior category. She is also the world number one in junior women’s under-66kg kumite and has three Karate 1 Youth League titles to her name.
Having added Asian championship gold to her 2026 season, Bsharat’s latest victory makes her a two-time world champion and one of Palestine’s standout names in international karate.
